Residents are being encouraged to share their views on how policing should be funded for 2026/27. This follows the Government’s provisional police funding settlement, which unusually only included basic headline figures and provided very little detail about how individual grants will be allocated. Provisionally, the figures indicate a modest increase for Warwickshire next year, though presupposes all PCCs will apply the maximum increase to the police element of Council Tax. This has been set at £15 for an average Band D household by the Government, with those in higher bands paying proportionately more and those in lower bands paying less. Under the Government’s approach, around two‑thirds of the overall budget increase is expected to come from local taxpayers, with the remainder provided through national funding. Without this full increase, the ability to deliver and sustain improvements to Warwickshire Police would be significantly reduced. Not taking the maximum rise would also have a compounding effect in future years, reducing financial resilience and placing greater pressure on stretched budgets. Despite these challenges, the proposed budget would enable continued progress in several areas that we know matter to the public, including improving response times, strengthening investigations and criminal justice outcomes, and maintaining improvements in call handling and visible patrols The budget for 2026/27 will be presented to the Warwickshire Police and Crime Panel on 2 February, so residents are encouraged to take part in the consultation as soon as possible.
